Who Am I
A question that should be asked of oneself!
I am a 47 (for now) year old Briton of mixed English and Scottish ancestry. I lived most of my life in Scotland with some time spent in the North East of England
, Singapore
, Cyprus
, Egypt
and a few other places around the world
. I am a chemist by training and it will always be my discipline of choice, I am also trained in electronic engineering and computer programming. My interests outside of chemistry and science in general include Science Fiction, music, both classical and blues/rock, computer programming, movies, The English Language, History, current affairs, and... Jeopardy.
Following the completion of my B.Sc.at the University of Stirling,
I worked for a number of years as a teacher of electronics and microprocessors at an Information technology Centre
in Scotland, I then moved to the University of Strathclyde
to work as a Research Assistant in the Analytical Research Group. Once I had completed my Masters and Ph.D. I became a full time researcher with this group. I published several papers in collaboration with my fellow researchers (1, 2, 3, 4)and I left The University of Strathclyde and began work as a programmer specializing in instrumentation control, CAL and the establishment and management of Hazard And Risk assessment Databases. From here I moved to work for ICI in Wilton
, England on their High Throughput Experimentation Rig, this is essentially a robotic laboratory which can do thousands of highly repetitive experiments in a fraction of the time that a human could. I was key to the furtherance of this project. I completed this project in the late summer of 2001 and I left the UK
to marry my wife in Jay, ME
. I started teaching in Livermore Falls
on the 5th November 2001.
